One-Man Fire Department
In the early ’50s, the small farming community near Sparta, Wisconsin, was grateful for and proud of their ‘one-man fire department’. Though only his hobby, in two years, Ervin Edwards had responded to more than 50 fire calls on farms, saving four houses and several farm buildings in the process. He towed his firefighting equipment in a trailer behind his car.
