CHAIR REPAIR

- RIAAN VILJOEN

The April article on fixing an old chair got me going, as I have plenty of time on my hands (as 60 per cent of the South African population has had during the coronavirus lockdown).

I thought I might as well get busy rather than stress about no work and no pay, like so many others in my shoes. I am a retail rep for a flooring company. After I’m done with this chair in the photo, it has a friend that needs to come apart, too, after I’ve sanded it down. It’s got particularly rickety arms that need some urgent attention.

Thanks to the DIY article, I now know what to do, and thanks to COVID-19, I have an extra month to complete the project in.

I think you’re definitely right, Riaan – many people have ended up with more time on their hands than usual. I like your approach: rather than just sitting idly around, why not get stuck into a woodworking project that you’ve been putting off? Nice work on the chairs.
