KATANA GF76 12UE
A KATANA IS a long, single-edged sword used by Japanese samurai. Like its namesake, this MSI laptop is sharp, slick, and purpose-made to deliver optimum results … in the gaming sphere, not in mortal combat, fortunately.
Powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, which facilitates a 30 per cent increase in performance when compared to the previous generation i7-11800H processor, heavy gaming and multitasking activities are managed with efficiency and ease.
MSI collaborated with Nagano Tsuyoshi, professional gaming character illustrator, with the design and creation of this device. Renowned for producing the game cover for Romance of the Three Kingdoms V from the ’90s, Tsuyohsi’s unique and bespoke character impressions are echoed in the notebook’s make-up.
The Katana GF76 utilises NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, built by Ampere, the tech giant’s second-generation RTX architecture. This is the ideal hardware for serious e-competitors, who demand ultra-smooth displays and graphics. The IPS-level display has a 144 Hz refresh rate, well suited to fast-paced gaming scenarios; keep in mind that IPS panels also typically provide the best colour and viewing angles.
With powerful processing speeds, maintaining thermal stability is crucial – the six heat pipes ensure conditions for the CPU and GPU are kept at optimal temperature levels.
When it comes to specs, the GF76 has 16 GB of RAM, two M.2 SSD slots for storage, a screen measuring 17.3”, and a 53.5 Wh battery. There are multiple ports, including 1× Type-C USB 3.2 Gen 1, 2× Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 1, 1× Type-A USB 2.0, 1× RJ45 (LAN), and 1× (4K at 60 Hz) HDMI. The backlit red keyboard is pretty cool, too.
