Dogfight divides neighbours
TWO Phoenix neighbours have laid charges against each other following the deaths of their pets after a dogfight last week.
Craig Reddy, a businessman, charged Constable Eric Carson, a policeman, for shooting dead his five-year-old German Shepherd in Clayfield.
The policeman's future mother-in-law, Sandra Mallah, subsequently lodged a charge against Reddy after her seven-yearold Chinese Shar Pei died of the injuries sustained in the dogfight.
Mallah claimed Reddy's two German Shepherds and his other dog had escaped through an open gate of his property and had 'viciously attacked her Chinese Shar Pei.
“Eric was about to leave for work when Reddy's dogs attacked my dog and dragged him away. My daughter, Eric and some labourers tried in vain to stop the fight which ended at Reddy's property. Eric acted in self defence and shot Reddy's dog dead. The dead German Shepherd wanted to attack him as well,'' said Mallah.
She said her Chinese Shar Pei may have been a big dog but he was not aggressive. “He lost all his teeth because he was ageing. We are missing him badly. The dogfight has strained our relationship with Reddy,'' said Mallah.
Reddy said he was upset by the fatal shooting of his German Shepherd.
“The tragedy has traumatised my fiveyear-old son. He got on very well with the German Shepherd. The policeman had no right to kill my dog. I hope that justice will prevail,'' said Reddy.
Police confirmed that the dogs owners had opened charges against each other.
According to police, investigations were continuing.
