‘See-dat’ recipes in Eid pull-out

- CHARLENE SOMDUTH

POST and Spekko Rice will publish a 12-page Eid recipe supplement on July 24.

The supplement has a variety of tantalising goodies which promises to send your taste buds on a frenzy.

The recipes include thirst quenchers such as an Eid Punch and Lemon Grass quencher to starters like Kiri Cheese Cutlets and an all-in-one breakfast casserole.

The main meals include Garlic Butter Kebaab Casserole, Creamy Prawns and Savoury Rice as well as Fillet Steak.

The sweet treats are Deluxe Milk Tart, Vanilla Chiffon Cake, Mozart Cake and Cake Pops. Some of the spicy treats are Pineapple Achar and Dhania Chutney.

The recipes have been compiled by Soraya Asmal Seedat and supplied by a number of contributors from throughout the country.

One of the contributors, Farzana Rangila, said after her mom’s death she had to take on the responsibility of caring for her father and four brothers. “I was 10 years old and I had no experience in the kitchen. I had to teach myself how to cook. At first I made a few mistakes but thankfully my family did not mind. I started to develop a passion for cooking and baking at the age of 13,” said Rangila.

Years later her passion for baking grew and now the Overport mother runs her own business Cake Dreamz which specialises in novelty, wedding cakes and cupcakes. She also teaches cake décor.

“My recipe on the cake pops will feature in the supplement. These decadent desserts resemble lollipops and are a huge hit among children especially at parties,” said Rangila.

Another contributor is Sarah Joosab Kajee who finds juggling between a two-year-old child and running a business is all in a day’s work.

The 26-year-old owns High Tiara Couture, a catering company, that specialises in High Tea Décor, Gourmet Cupcakes, salads and finger foods. The supplement will feature her various recipes .

“My love for food began about four years ago. Cooking and baking made me happy. I am fortunate that I was able to turn my passion into a career,” said Kajee, who added that her motto “have to have a burst of flavour” is what makes her tasty treats delicious.
