SWEET SUCCESS AS NAMED FILM OF THE YEAR

BARFI walked away with top honours at the 14th Internatio­nal Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards at the Venetian Hotel, Macau.

India’s version of the Oscars celebrated “100 years of Indian cinema” with a starstudde­d line-up of new and old Bollywood personalit­ies in the presence of over 7000 fans.

The Anurag Basu-directed Barfi, based on a mute and deaf man’s relationsh­ip with two women, scooped a total of 14 awards at the main ceremony on Saturday night.

Ranbir Kapoor took home the Best Actor award for his role in Barfi, which also won the award for best film.

Anurag Basu was presented with the Best Director trophy for the same movie.

Hosted by superstars, Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor, the four-hour ceremony comprised of energetic dance sequences and various skits performed by the A-listers in attendance.

Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit enthralled the audience with a medley of her most popular film songs.

Another glam queen, Sri Devi, left guests awestruck with a dance-off, performed alongside Prabhu Deva.

The star-studded awards night celebratio­n also featured performanc­es by Sushant Singh Rajput, Deepika Padukone, Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra.

The “IIFA Rocks” fashion show on Friday had audiences mesmerised with youthful acts by Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonu Sood, Sophie Chaudhary, Arjun Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Gauhar Khan and others.

IIFA introduced a unique concept to this year’s event.

The acting workshop, hosted by veteran actor Anupam Kher, focused on fostering and cultivatin­g acting talent in the youth.

100 years of Indian cinema: An actor Prepares allowed aspiring actors to interact with Kher on an educationa­l platform. This year, Wizcraft, the event producers chose to return to Macau to host the event as it is the intention of the gambling hub to diversify its customer base beyond the traditiona­l casino punter.
