ON THE FACE OF IT
LAST week POST published a story about two men who were arrested for killing a Pietermaritzburg doctor, Bhavish Sewram, and who could lead police to the mastermind behind the attack.
An anonymous source said the two men would lift the lid on a prominent businessman who is said to have had a two-year vendetta against the doctor.
Sewram was alleged to have had an affair with the businessman’s wife and was apparently cited in divorce proceedings as a reason for the breakdown in the marriage. The couple are said to have reunited.
Readers on our Facebook page, POST Newspaper, commented.
– Simitha Thulsie Prithvraj: What devastating news for the doctor’s wife!
– Naresh Keshav: This is Kaliyuga. You are going to see a lot of accusations of extramarital affairs. The truth is revealed only when one of the partners gets killed.
– Ashwin Singh: Do not label glibly as “extra-marital” as the crooks have many weird ways of siphoning money from people. I know the couple and they are refined. I was MC at their wedding at the ICC.
– Raman Puckaree: If this is accurate, the businessman and his wife would be to blame. The wife encouraged the illicit relationship and the businessman put out the hit.
– Liz Pillay: Whatever the circumstances or whoever are the perpetrators and whatever the story behind this, karma comes around and when this happens the truth will prevail. It's just sad that the community, country, and the family have lost a valuable asset, that no amount of money can replace a life.
– Rebecca Ramjohit: My goodness. Shows how bad the crime is in South Africa. Revenge is becoming a common thing nowadays. What happen to ‘what goes around, comes around’ and ‘karma’? Is it all forgotten?
– Sha Sewpersad: If the affair did happen, why kill only the doctor? Kill the wife too. After all, it takes two to tango.
– Shumira Jogi: No matter what you do, there is no reason to kill and be killed. It is sad that society should take it upon themselves to be judge, jury and executioner. The only family here reeling from the loss is the doctor’s. May whoever is responsible be punished in the harshest manner. I still stand by the death penalty being brought back for rotten fools like these.
– Layne Naidoo: Whatever the circumstances are people should not take the law into their own hands. My condolences go out to the bereaved family. It’s truly sad to hear stories like this.
– Seetha Rajkumar: If the rumours are true, what right did they have to take a life?
– Karen Maharaj: What makes the killers superior to the doctor? Were they perhaps God to judge him and take away his life when they chose to do so? The businessman must not only point fingers at the doctor, he should first look at his wife because it took two to have an affair. Where are their morals, ethics and values? You robbed young kids of their father. One day we all will meet with our creator to answer for our deeds. Om Sai Ram. IT SEEMS that the Peru and Bala Show is here to stay and their appearance on Lotus fm comes with much laughter.
As South Africans of Indian origin, we salute all our comedians of the Indian diaspora and may that talent continue irrespective of any negative publicity one may face.
I recall a time when certain listeners decided that the Bala and Peru Show was offensive to Indian South Africans. They predicted that the listenership would drop.
They will now have to eat their words.
A year has passed since negative reporting. The Uncle Peru and Uncle Bala Show is now a big hit on Saturday on Lotus fm and the station has increased its listenership from the Indian South African community.
Also, the Peru and Bala cartoon in POST is well worth laughter after a hectic day at work for ardent readers.
Many barriers have been broken as the Uncle Peru and Uncle Bala Show are now destined to tour the country.
Go Peru and Bala! Your humour is a great reliever that fellow South Africans continue to enjoy.
