A crime comedy with a splash of glamour

-

THIS is a romantic comedy that turns into a mafia thriller, stirring moods as it changes between goofy and seriousness.

The film traces the story of Shoaib (Kumar), taken under the wings of a crime boss in his childhood, and whose reputation includes the rule over Bombay city.

Don Rawal (Manjrekar) resents Shoaib’s growing empire in Bombay, and sets out to eliminate him.

When Shoaib meets aspiring actress Jasmine (Sinha), he instantly falls for her simplicity and straightforwardness, turning him into a different person.

Aslam (Khan), an associate of Shoaib, who teaches Jasmine to speak English, also falls in love with her.

All hell breaks loose when Shoaib learns that Aslam also loves Jasmine.

This crime comedy celebrates the underworld with a splash of glamour.

Not as dark or gruesome as the other movies in its genre, the story is portrayed as an exaggeration in its performances and romantic plotline.

Underneath its flamboyant exterior there exists a simple storyline which could find its takers amongst the romantics.

It’s easy to get attracted to this offbeat satire as its intentions are purely to entertain in old fashioned Bollywood style.

There’s a likeable musical score that helps create an effective musical ambience during the narrative.

Kumar plays the underworld don with poignant charm.

He meticulously carries off the suave gangster character with unnerving ease.

Khan is a skilful comedian.

He brings a certain amount of exuberance to his character, playing it to the hilt.

Sinha is wonderful in her glamorous role.

She graces every part of her character.

It is a satisfactory entertainment package which, even though lacking the disturbing edge of the first movie, provides sufficient enjoyment.
