Nationwide manhunt

Suspect could be in south Durban area

- VIASEN SOOBRAMONEY AND CLINTON MOODLEY

POLICE have launched a countrywide manhunt for a suspected murderer.

Koobendran Moodley, 32, is alleged to have been involved in the murder of Joash Adrian Harrod, 22, in Lenasia South, Gauteng, earlier this month.

Harrod was shot twice in the head following an altercation over a minor car accident.

Harrod, his girlfriend Karina and friend, Dalton, left their Lenasia South home to visit a nearby bakery.

This was when Moodley allegedly knocked into Harrod’s VW Polo and fled the scene.

Harrod and his friend approached Moodley at a home in Azalea Street when he was shot.

Moodley was arrested and granted bail but disappeared for three weeks.

Harrod’s family have also sought the services of Durban based Bopha Investigations, a private detective service, to help track down Moodley.

It is believed he could have fled to KwaZulu-Natal and be around the Rossburgh area.

Private investigator Seelan Pillay said they were working around the clock searching for Moodley.

“The man is armed and dangerous. We are concerned that he could also be a danger to society. He has violated his bail conditions as he was suppose to present himself at the Lenasia South SAPS everyday, which he has not done for the past three weeks,” said Pillay.

He urged members of the public who spotted Moodley not to approach him, but call Bopha Investigations, or the police.

Lenasia South SAPS confirmed Moodley was a wanted suspect.

Harrod’s family are devastated by his death.

His policeman father, Timothy, 46, pleaded to Moodley to hand himself over to police, so they could get closure from the incident.

“My son was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I want him (Moodley) to hand himself over. Justice needs to prevail. He needs to be arrested and brought to book for this crime. There was no need for him to shoot my son,” said Timothy.

He said he could not get the image of his dead son out of his mind.

“Being a policeman, I am usually the one who picks up dead bodies on the street. To see my son’s body at the scene was unbearable”.

Timothy said the last time he saw his son was when Harrod visited him and borrowed his golf clubs.

“We had relatives at our home that day and they were excited to see Joash after a long time.

“Little did we realise that, that would be the last time we saw our beloved boy.”

If you know of Moodley’s whereabouts or have spotted him, call Seelan Pillay on 078 163 4029 or 074 275 6026 or Warrant Officer Sithole at Lenasia South SAPS on 011 855 1116.
