PLOT
Kavya Pratap Singh (Bhatt) meets a young, carefree Delhi lad, Humpty Sharma (Dhawan) during a trip to Delhi for her marriage shopping.
Kavya is unattainable for Humpty initially, which makes her even more attractive to him.
Being a Delhi boy, he tries his best to pursue her and wins her love eventually.
Knowing very well that her father, the very strict, yet loving Mr Singh would never accept their relationship, Humpty sets off to Kavya’s home in Ambala to attain her hand in marriage.
VERDICT
Perhaps fresh isn’t the right word as we know what to expect from this love story.
However, the director opts for a quirky reprise of the classic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge with a modern treatment.
It’s a simple, amusing and amiable yarn with the odd hint of classic love stories.
The story is familiar, but breezily directed with delicate restraint by Khaitan.
He aims for mild drama and comedy rather than anything too deep.
The presentation is light and the fluffy elements give it a wholesome feel.
The film contains all the essential ingredients, used to the advantage of creating a heartening filmexperience for the viewer.
For once, the level of writing suitably meets the requirements of an out-and-out crowd pleaser.
While not too much detail is paid to perfecting the script, the director capitalises on the strength of his actors and a vibrant music score.
The cast set the tone with a spirited comic energy.
The performances by Varun and Alia are commendable and deliver the necessary chemistry.
Dhawan’s charisma “loverboy” traits and Bhatt’s feisty charm are delightful to watch on screen.
Shukla is perfect for the role of the suitor. Ashutosh Rana is admirable as the bride’s father.
