Film is a delightful treat

-

Movie: Un Samayal Arayil Director: Prakash Raj Cast: Prakash Raj, Sneha and Urvashi Rating: 8/10 PRAKASH Raj’s new directorial venture is a remake of the Malayalam filmSalt N Pepper.

After previously making hit movies like Naanu Nanna Kanasu and Dhoni the actor-filmmaker serves the audience with yet another quality entertainer.

PLOT

Kalidasan (Prakash Raj) is a middle-aged bachelor, employed at the state archaeology department and is a complete foodie.

He lives with his distant relative Vaidhi (Kumaravel) and has a cook Krishna (Thambi Ramaiah).

Gowri (Sneha) is a dubbing artist whose passion for food relates to a deep devotion to her deceased mother, known to be a great cook.

Both have passed the age of marriage and choose to remain single for different reasons. However their opinion on relationships changes when Gowri accidentally ends up in Kalidasan’s house.

Their relationship starts on a wrong note with both abusing each other but their mutual love for food and cooking eventually bring them closer together.

VERDICT

The culinary subject is unconventional and forms an interesting basis for the plot.

Prakash explores a provocative human relationship with a fair balance of emotional and fun elements.

While the first half is engaging, the storyline wavers after the interval as it drags, with a series of subplots being introduced.

The camaraderie between the central characters keeps the mood enjoyable and light-hearted. Prakash’s versatility as an actor is prominently on display here.

He plays the understated “heroic” character with sweeping charm.

Sneha matches the top class performance of her seasoned co-star with natural ease. She delivers in the simplistic role and excels in the romantic scenes.

Tejus, Samyukta and Urvasi are a refreshing addition as the “young couple”.

Thambi Ramaiah, Elango Kumaravel, Urvashi and Aishwarya have significant supporting roles.

Ilayaraja’s background score deserves a mention for enhancing the subtle yet indulgent mood of the film.

RECOMMENDATION

The film is a sumptuous treat for romantics. It contains the essential ingredients for a pleasantly delightful experience.
