Annamalai’s House of Nuts for Sibaya this weekend
FOR two nights only theatrical comedy-drama, House of Nuts is set to enthral audiences at the Sibaya Casino from July 25 to 26.
Written by theatre veteran Dr Satchu Annamalai, the play will feature, among others, Ruben Naidoo, Maeshni Naicker, Melanie Kisten, Desiree Kisten and Warrick Frank.
Annamalai said House of Nuts revolved around Harry Venketsamy (Ruben Naidoo), who takes early retirement at age 55.
Harry plans to enjoy his time by partying and having fun.
His sister-in-law, Selvie (Maeshni Naicker), has other plans though.
Selvie is a bitter and jealous woman who hates seeing her brother-in-law live the life he wants for him and his wife, Vani (Melanie Kisten).
Blackmail and threats are some of the gripping scenarios in the play, which is suitable for all age groups.
The 90-minute production was originally set to be serious.
But after intensive research, Annamalai said he knew it was comedy audiences yearned for.
After reworking his original concept, House of Nuts was born.
“The play deals with money and the madness around it. It revolves around people’s attitude towards wealth and the dramatic consequences of it. The production took me two months to write and I am certain the audiences will be satisfied,” said Annamalai.
He said the play was educative and thought provoking.
“I have a strong cast for this play. Their talents will be shown on stage.”
Durban actress Maeshni Naicker, of Broken Promises fame, said she was excited to be playing the villain.
“Selvie is crazy and evil. Audiences will see how her devious actions unfold in the play.”
The star said she could not wait to work with the Kisten sisters.
“The two are fun to work with. One will get the opportunity to see them perform for the first time in a theatrical play.”
Naicker encourages Durbanites to watch as it would be perfect for families, couples or friends.
