Show was disappointing

-

I ATTENDED the show “Kings and Queens of Melody” on July 12 at the Durban ICC. The show, which had ticket prices ranging from R200 to R1 500, was such a disappointment. It lacked professionalism and finesse from beginning to end. The musical group was a let down. I think Durban musical bands Bollywood Show Band, Dilkash, or even The Tansen Nepaul Showband, would have done a better job. The show started late, singer Kumar Sanu spoke too much, people paid to hear him sing not talk and the same goes to singer Alka Yagnik. The singers and the musical group looked unrehearsed, it was quite evident that backtracks/karaoke was also used during the performance. The sound was bad, where sometimes the music was louder than the singer and viceversa. We have sound companies like AK Azam Khan’s and Bass Mechanics who have done many Indian shows and know and understand Indian music that would have saved the day. The Zee TV stars were just running and jumping for their performance, running into the crowd where the young and old women were going crazy grabbing and pulling these TV actors. The comperes made too many appearances, often interrupting the flow of the show, wasting time with ticket draws that gave away goody bags and photograph opportunities with the Zee stars. For the money that people paid, especially the ones that paid R500 and above, the show was not worthy of these ticket prices. The most amazing part was that most patrons lapped it up without a fuss.
