FLURRY OF NEW FOOTBALL SIGNINGS
YET another potentially exciting and enthralling Premier League season is almost upon us and there are just a few weeks left before the new season kicks off.
Jose Mourinho has already indicated that his Chelsea side has completed all its transfer business dealings, but do not be fooled by the crafty Portuguese tactician. Last season he came in with a late bid to pip Tottenham Hotspur to sign Brazilian midfielder Willian and his declaration could just be a smoke screen.
Tottenham too have begun their transfer dealings, trading off Gylfi Sigurdsson to Swansea City in exchange for Ben Davies and £5 million with Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm also forming part of the deal to move to White Hart Lane.
The capture of highly-rated Dutch international Vorm looks likely to start tongues wagging.
Spurs’ number one Hugo Lloris may yet be readying himself for a move away to PSG. Another key player for Spurs who has just agreed a new five-year deal with the club is Jan Vertonghen. The classy Belgium international was being courted by Barcelona and Manchester United.
Highly rated and coming off a very good World Cup display, Vertonghen has enhanced his status as one of the best central defenders in the world.
It will be interesting to see how long Tottenham can fight off the intensified interest from some of the leading European clubs for his services.
