Vibrancy and colour at POST HERITAGE WALK

-

THE POST Heritage Day 5km family fun walk will take place at Blue Lagoon next Wednesday starting at 9am.

Walkers will set off from the Green Hub at Blue Lagoon and be guided by members of the Woodview Athletic Club along the newly constructed promenade down to Sunkist then back to the Green Hub.

Along the way participants will be entertained with cultural items to showcase our diverse cultures yet common heritage.

Pre-registration is currently taking place at various outlets (see this page). Walkers can also register on the morning of the walk from 7.30am at the Green Hub.

It costs R25 to enter and participants are encouraged to walk in their traditional wear, although this is not compulsory.

Come and join the fun and showcase our colourful culture while POST promotes social cohesion.

The Edison Power Group is the main sponsor of the event.

Chairman Vivian Reddy said he had no hesitation in supporting the cause when approached by this newspaper to do so.

“Social cohesion is something I feel strongly about and linking EPG to this initiative is a natural thing to do.”

POST editor Yogas Nair said: “The response to the Heritage Walk has been phenomenal. This proudly South African event will bring together people from across KZN.

“What makes it special is that it will embrace social cohesion and social responsibility. POST is committed to giving back to communities.”

Nair also thanked EPG for making the event possible.

As a part of our outreach initiatives, POST has included NGO Indoni in the day’s programme.

Indoni is a national effort to promote moral regeneration among youth.

The International Movement for Tamil Culture (IMTC), which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in Germany later this year, came to the party to sponsor the NGO.

Spokeswoman Pauline Naidoo said they were encouraged to sponsor Indoni because of the work they did.

“We all know that moral regeneration is something we must support to build a better South Africa, and the work done by organisations like Indoni needs to be commended.

“The IMTC supports POST on its Heritage Day walk, and we would like to wish the newspaper everything of the best in its attempt to promote social cohesion.”

Radio Hindvani will broadcast live from the venue and the first 3 000 walkers past the finish post will receive a T-shirt.

Nelson Mandela once said: “When our first democraticallyelected government decided to make Heritage Day one of our national days, we did so because we knew that our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our
