Nelson Mandela’s qualities missed

-

THE contribution made by Nelson Mandela can never be measured. He saved us from a racial holocaust that could have destroyed our country.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to Madiba for his contribution to freedom and justice for all men and women in this country.

Courage in the face of oppression, resistance in the face of injustice. That is the enduring legacy of Madiba. He is a hero of our history whose legend will be enshrined in the millennial epoch.

His classical stature, commanding voice and superb advocacy of political policies invested the liberation movement with power and influence, which were distinct and decisive. We will remember him for his sincere devotion, princely sacrifices and great qualities of organisation and inspiration.

No cadre in our history lived a life more daring in its conception, more eventful in its import and more human in its urges and impulses.

His was a life apart, with every energy of soul and body dedicated to the service of mankind. Not once was there the temptation of retaliation and revenge.

His idealism therefore transformed the boundaries of race and country, and sought to make itself one with the highest hopes of humanity.

Every freedom we have today was earned by the spilt blood of our struggle heroes like Madiba. We must honour their memory, knowing that they are not just names on tombstones. On the altar of freedom many sacrificed their lives so we could be free.

Madiba’s departure will serve to remind us of a generous and fearless personality, and a life of nobility and patriotism, sacrifice and service.

The day of freedom ultimately came and carved in the pages of our history the name of Nelson Mandela stands for all time, both an example and an inspiration.

In our time of sorrow, South Africa can be proud of having had a man of impeccable honour such as Madiba. He is sadly missed. FAROUK ARAIE
