Murthis on the move

-

Three Lord Ganesha murthis were chauffeurdriven in a limousine from a shrine in Riverdene, Newlands West, to the Durban Hindu Temple in Somtseu Road on Thursday for an invocation – symbolising the start of the 10 day festival of Ganesha Chaturthi. This was in honour of the Hindu god regarded as the remover of obstacles. The festival will end on Sunday. The procession included a police escort. According to Roy Moodley, the procession organiser, the three murthis remained at the temple overnight before each of them made their pilgrimage to 27 other temples in and around Durban. He said each of the murthis would be at three temples today (Wednesday) from 68pm. They are the Rega Temple in Newlands West, and the Foresthaven Hindu Dharma and Palmview Hindu, Dharma both in Phoenix. For details on where the murthis will be until the end of Ganesha Chaturthi on Sunday, Call Moodley on 084 655 5692.
