Carragher questions Rodgers’ sacking

-

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has queried the idea of sacking Reds boss Brendan Rodgers so early into the 2015/16 league season, despite an indifferent run of form.

Rodgers’ side were held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich City as Danny Ings – one of eight players in an R1.6 billion summer recruitment drive at Anfield – saw his first goal for the club cancelled out by a Russell Martin equaliser.

The result only increased the pressure on the Liverpool boss after taking just eight points from their opening six matches, but Carragher was unsure whether a separation between the two parties was the solution.

“There was talk of him going at the end of last season, they decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.” he said on Sky Sports.

“If you give him that much money, and then say after eight league games you want to make the change, you just think you should have just done it in the summer.

“You’ve backed him with the money, he has got to get longer than eight to 10 games, probably closer to Christmas.

“In their last 18 games, they haven’t scored more than one goal and that’s a problem for a manager who is an attacking manager like Brendan Rodgers.

“Where is the Brendan Rodgers-type of game we associated with a year or two ago?”
