THE following letter to the editor was written this week by Minorities of SA party leader Narendh Ganesh:

-

Dear Madam,

It was going to be only a matter of time before my own words were going to come to haunt me.

And so it was that on Saturday evening that I had to experience my worst nightmare.

Four despicable, callous and merciless vermin of our society broke into my home and heartlessly gunned down a family member in cold blood.

She was a frail 80-year-old lady, who posed no threat, who offered no resistance, and who pleaded for her life.

Having robbed the family at gunpoint, taking whatever they chose, their lust for blood did not wane.

They needed to take a life to satisfy their vile nature.

Ironic as it is, I appealed to the readers of POST on occasions to join with me to become proactive in fighting the criminals that roam our streets.

The response was, to say the least, pathetic.

I reiterate what I wrote two years ago in this newspaper: “There is a bullet with your name on it” – and I cannot stress more that this truism is only a matter of time.

Your life is a lottery in South Africa.

As we blissfully believe that the cocoons we exist in will continue uninterrupted – our destiny is being planned by those who have no value for life whatsoever.

I will not give up the fight against criminals and crime – despite the selfish reticence of many in the broader community not involving themselves actively in this fight. But I caution everyone for the umpteenth time – YOU COULD BE NEXT!

Crime is a war – you can choose to fight with those wanting to live their lives free of fear and harm, or you could recline in your uneasy comfort and wait for that bullet with your name on it to strike.

I once again appeal to readers: let us stand up and fight back.

Having high security gates and employing security companies to patrol our streets and our reliance on the police is evidently not enough – let us take control.

Let us become the architects of our own destiny, and let it not be designed by the filth that are being nurtured by a failing security system of the country.

The choice is yours.
