Never Settle ready to go

- ANDREW HARRISON

THE Dean Kannemeyer-trained Never Settle is back over his optimum trip on the Greyville poly today and although he faces a strong field in the Racing. It’s A Rush Divided Handicap over 1400m he can return to winning ways.

Kannemeyer has been in good form this winter with Never Settle providing two of his 63 wins, one over course and distance.

Most recently he had excuses when a close-up fourth over 1200m to Top Form. Jumping from a wide draw he was slow out of the gate and had one behind him turning for home.

He made up all of five lengths in the run to the wire although Anthony Delpech was in hot water for his over exuberance with the stick.

Prior to that the entire field was caught out by Royal Life who all but ran away with his apprentice rider.

The opposition was expecting the runaway to tire in the home straight but it was not to be and their race was run before they realised that Royal Life was not for the catching with Never Settle running on the best of them for second.

That is an unlikely scenario this afternoon but there should be a good pace on with the front-running Executive Power likely to be leading the charge.

Mike Miller’s runner is drawn one out from Never Settle so is likely to have Delpech breathing down his neck from the jump.

Team Guys and Kapitan look pick of the balance.

Kannemeyer can boost the bank balance for a crack at the Pick 6 when he saddles Mr O’Neill in the third. Green on debut, he made the expected improvement at his second outing only to find Zodiac Ruler making a winning debut. Justin Snaith’s runner went on to land the Gr2 Golden Horseshoe and the imposing Australian import is definitely one for the notebook.

Given that showing Mr O’Neill could condemn the luckless Qeyaadah to a fourth runners-up berth.

Black Hall Bar spiked a temperature on Monday and is out of the opening leg of the Pick 6 leaving the way clear for stable companion Chamber Maid.

She has had one outing this winter for Neil Bruss and was hopelessly green behind Querari Falcon.

That form has worked out well and the rise in trip should also be in her favour.

Northern Storm and Iced Up are two who look set to improve while Joy To Joy has been knocking at the door and is a must inclusion for bigger perms.

New Hampshire

Deago de Gouveia was full value for his 4kg claim aboard New Hampshire for Dennis Drier on Sunday and his claim could make all the difference to the chances of top weight and Driertrained Nineteen Fourteen in the sixth.

The son of Rebel King has been up against it this winter taking on the likes of Paterfamilias and Heartland and the drop in class coupled with an apprentice claim could see him back in the winner's enclosure.

Kannemeyer again has a ‘live’ runner in Do Be Snappy but a poor draw and a 3,5kg pull in the weights could give Nineteen Fourteen too much of an advantage.
