Pull in for a dance blast from the past

F YOU enjoyed music from local bands The Raiders, The Dynachords and Crescendos and Friends, then head to the ABH Fair this Friday, when a musical show will take place from 7pm until 11pm.

It is co-ordinated by Eric Gabriel, lead guitarist of The Raiders in the 1960s and then of The Dynachords, who is preparing to bring back some of the hits to the stage. some of their hits.

Gabriel, who played for The Dynachords at The Pelican in Chatsworth, said audiences could expect songs like Dance 69, Fuzz Face, Encore The Raiders, Get Ready.

“Most of the original band members have passed away and we have new young fresh blood,” he said. “Danny (Harris), Clive (Pillay) and I will be performing all the hits from The Raiders and it will be a mix of some of the old and the new.”

He said audiences can expect hits from The Beatles, Cliff Richards, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong.

“It’s going to be a big variety and a journey of the best music from the bands of yesteryear.”

Speaking to POST about the latest members, Gabriel said they were “hand-picked” to keep the brand of music alive and audiences can expect the “same quality of music”.

Their new band members include John David and Derrick Fredericks.

There will also be a performanc­e from rock band Forever Chilled.

Said Gabriel: “Everyone should put on their dancing shoes and head down to the ABH.

“It’s going to be lots of fun and a chance to dance for people who loved the music from the bands that were popular all over Durban.”
