Vote for a candidate who will deliver

-

ALLOW me to acknowledge and expand on the letter from Philisha Govender, “Make your voice heard on August 3”,

POST, July 20-24. Besides land invasion and the huge influx of informal settlers in Reservoir Hills and Clare Estate, we have another fight. For the past three years we have suffered in darkness, patiently waiting for the municipality to light up our street in Quarry Road West.

We have complained to the municipality but no attempts are being made to fix the street lights.

Our ANC ward councillor has gone AWOL, so we cannot approach him for help.

I do not think it is fair that ratepayers should suffer for the actions of people who steal electricity. Durban describes itself as a caring city but is neglecting our rights and needs.

Driving along Quarry Road West at night is scary and dangerous. There have been many accidents due to poor visibility. Sometimes motorists have to swerve to avoid pedestrians who wear dark clothing at night.

I totally agree with Philisha Govender that on August 3, we must vote for a candidate we believe has the will and capacity to make Reservoir Hills and Clare Estate a better and safer place. As she states: “We should not make the mistake of electing candidates on the basis on old political loyalties, because we will only have ourselves to blame if we choose a councillor who has no experience in local government or community involvement”.

I urge the ratepayers to vote for a candidate who will engage us on issues affecting our community and have a track record of community service and good work ethic. SHIREEN AMBROSE
