- CHARLENE SOMDUTH

DESPITE being placed fourth in the SA’s Got Talent competition, Jesse Govender remains optimistic. He is now using his experience from the show to focus on his music career and work on a CD.

“SA’s Got Talent has been a phenomenal experience and while I am disappointed that I came in fourth place, Kryptonite Dance Academy deserved to win.”

Throughout the competition the 18-year-old from Mariannhill performed ballads, but on Sunday night he chose to show his versatility and performed Wake Me Up by Avicii on guitar.

“I choose this song because it was upbeat. I wanted to show the viewers and the judges that I could sing more than just ballads.

“The judges thought it was good and that it showed my instrumental skills, but they also felt I did not connect with the audience,” Govender explained.

Describing the competition as a learning experience, he said he was going to use the criticism from the judges to enhance his skills.

“This is not the end for me, it’s only the beginning.

“The competition has given me a taste of what working in the music industry is like and I am more than certain that I have made the right career choose,” he laughed.

Govender thanked all his supporters for voting and keeping him motivated throughout the competition.

“Every week viewers would send me their well wishes over Facebook, and even on Sunday night I received 300 messages.”

Now that the competition is over, Govender is focusing on attain his bachelor’s degree in music at the University of KwaZuluNatal, and on launching a CD some time next year.
