Bisetty is new editor of POST
VETERAN journalist Krisendra Bisetty has been promoted to the position of Editor of POST.
Bisetty, 47, has spent 15 years in various roles at Independent Media titles, including as acting POST editor since November. He was the paper’s news editor for two years, and before that, night news editor of the Daily News.
The married Durban father of two, who is also a lawyer, is helping to steer the 62-year-old title into a national publication, circulating in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and more recently the Western Cape.
“I am greatly honoured to be given this opportunity to enhance POST’s status as South Africa’s number one news brand around the Indian cultural identity,” said Bisetty.
“We want to showcase the successes of this community, cover its trials and tribulations, help preserve its heritage and culture, and build bridges with other communities.”
He added that he was fully committed to Executive Chairman Dr Iqbal Survé’s vision, and Independent’s mission, to lead the new media revolution.
Bisetty’s family has a cumulative 110 years of service at Independent’s KZN titles – his late father, Nagoor, was the country’s first black journalist working in white-owned mainstream media in the 1950s.
One of the highlights of Bisetty’s media career was conceptualising what has become LeadSA, a civic-minded, national media-driven initiative on robust citizenship.
A permanent Fellow of the US-based World Press Institute, Bisetty has worked and trained at various American and Canadian news and media organisations.
Independent Media has also announced that former The Citizen editor Steve Motale has taken over the editorship of POST’s sister title, The Sunday Independent.
“Mr Motale brings great diversity to our Gauteng publications where our readers can find contested views and opinions in our various titles including The Star, Sunday Independent, Saturday Star, Pretoria News and Isolezwe (Gauteng), as well as African Independent,” said Dr Survé.
“Steve and Krissy are both respected journalists who work with integrity and flair. I have no doubt that their contribution to the quality of their publications will enhance the experience of both readers and advertisers. I wish them and their respective teams every success.”
