A word on a DA MPL
THE article, ‘KZN has fallen off the fiscal cliff’, (POST, May 03-17), refers.
According to the report, DA MPL Francois Rodgers stated that KwaZulu-Natal under the ANC-led provincial government, continues to find itself in a perilous financial position as, year in and year out, it tries to do more with less, while cutting departmental budgets in order to balance the books.
He states that this has been going on for years and at some point it will get to a stage where it is no longer possible to make any further cuts without departments starting to haemorrhage and as a result service delivery will be the first casualty.
Rodgers goes to great lengths discussing the recent cabinet reshuffle, the downgrading of our country to junk status by two rating agencies and the negative effect junk status will have on our economy and on ordinary citizens.
There was nothing in the article informing readers what concrete plans the DA had to turn around the economy, job creation, reducing debt and how it will reverse the downgrading of our country from junk status.
If the DA vented its criticism regarding wasteful expenditure that is rampant and better monitoring of the tender system, it would have contributed to the policy of doing more with less with proper fiscal oversight.
But then again, finding solutions to problems is something that is foreign to the DA. They are only noted for criticising, complaining and running to the courts. JAYRAJ BACHU
