Juniors get big push from Safa Chatsworth

-

SAFA Chatsworth have started a concerted effort to develop junior football in the suburb.

Public relations officer Jace Govender said the executive had identified junior development as a priority.

“The popularity of social media and other couch-orientated activities is giving rise to an unhealthy generation of youngsters and we see sport, in particular football, as a means to a balanced lifestyle.

“We are calling on parents in the area to get their children off the couches and onto the playing fields,” said Govender.

He added that Safa Chatsworth had 10 teams in the Under-7 league and 12 teams in the U9 division while 18 teams were catered for in each of the other junior divisions.

“This year we will emphasise junior development and have organised four junior tournaments with a sponsorship of R150 000. Our efforts have been encouraged by the many sponsors who have also identified junior development as a priority.”

Govender said coach training for the junior divisions had been fasttracked. “We strongly subscribe to the view that the most effective way to improve the standard of junior football is to improve the standard and quality of our coaches.

“Above all, we want to see the public attend our matches. The family-friendly, festive environment of junior games is an inspiration to our youngsters to show off their talent. We want to see parents, family and the public at our matches.”
