Fashion that means business
ESIGNER Haroun Hansrot, who has a passion for fashion and an eye for intricate detail, will show his latest programme, From Boardroom to Ballroom, at the POST/ SAB Women’s Day Breakfast on August 2 at the International Convention Centre, Durban.
Dominating the local and international scene for over a decade, Hansrot said he would be taking fashion to a different level.
He said the programme, which had been put together for the Women’s Day Breakfast, would assist women in the corporate industry to transform their look straight from the office to an event in a minute.
“I started this programme as a way to assist women who don’t necessarily have the time after a long working day to go home and get dressed up for a meeting and night out.
“For example, just say your boss tells you that you have to fly to Johannesburg for a business meeting followed by cocktails with clients. You cannot arrive at the airport with a huge suitcase and then find somewhere to get ready. So we have these little clever, yet still fashionable garments, that can turn your business suit pants into cocktail or evening attire.”
He continued: “All you will need is a little purse and the garment is rolled up inside. One of our creations is a beaded lace pants that can be attached to your formal pants and it becomes a lining to the fancy evening attire.
“We also have fancy scarves and shawls, among many other beautifully designed pieces, which will be showcased. We will be giving tutorials on how to use them.”
Hansrot said skincare and make-up were also major concerns for women and he had enlisted a therapist and make-up artist to provide tutorials.
“The skin is one of the most outstanding features of a woman and also their greatest concern. With issues such a pigmentation and scarring, I have enlisted a skin therapist and make-up artist, who will give the
From Boardroom to Ballroom women some great skin tips and makeup tutorials in accordance with the programme.
“They will teach the women, for example, whilst sitting in their car or Uber, on how to apply their evening make-up without a fuss. How to hide flaws. Contour and all the tricks to look glamorous. It is going to be exciting and the women are in for a treat.”
Hansrot has also joined forces with Haute Events for a fashion show, curated by Eshaa Amiin and featuring 25 of India’s fashion designers, at The Square Boutique Hotel, uMhlanga, from Friday. THE biggest Indian fashion designer show is set to hit the East Coast this weekend with some of the biggest designer names from India on their way to the Haute Fashion Extravaganza to be held at The Square Boutique Hotel, uMhlanga, from Friday to Sunday.
The show is a collaboration between Haute Events’ Nafeesa Joosab, local celebrity fashion designer Haroun Hansrot and businessman Faisal Supariwala, who have appointed Bollywood celebrity stylist, Eshaa Amiin, the show’s curator.
Amiin was the head stylist of the Miss India contest and has worked with A-list celebrities, including Karishma Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Sridevi, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit.
Her work has featured internationally, in popular magazines Filmfare and Forbes, as well as movies like Singh is Bling.
Some of the designers she has secured for the event are Manish Arora, Neeta Lulla, Amit Agarwal, Pink Peacock Couture and Valliyan.
Joosab, the chief executive of Haute Lifestyle & Events, said the event would be one of a kind.
“I have liaised with all the designers regarding sizing and body shape of the South African woman, so they have catered accordingly. We also gave them a price range to follow to ensure everything is affordable for the average person. Designs will be wearable fashion that you won’t find at any average exhibition.”
Joosab, who is often styled by Haroun Hansrot, said that while befriending other designers through her travels, she had realised there was a gap between the South African market and international trends.
“We tend to stick to the known brands and not explore the newer ones. With this in mind, I wanted to bring down international designers and give them a platform in South Africa.
“We have never had this many designers of such high calibre under one roof. We want them to see that South Africans have interest in their brands and this is a market for them to invest in. This is how the whole event came about and Haroun is the only one I trust to do this with me.”
The three-day line-up includes a fashion show and VIP evening with leading designers on Friday.
Guests will be treated to canapés and mocktails at a show featuring designer garments.
Thereafter, they can interact with the designers for an exclusive VIP shopping experience.
The following two days offer an exhibition, which is free to the public.
“A large part of the show was conceptualised to save South Africans a flight to India, to get their shopping done right here.”
Joosab said there was a huge emphasis on modern Indo-Western fusion wear to suit the rainbow taste of the South African market as well as an opportunity for would-be brides to interact with the best designers on what to wear for their big day.
Two proudly South African brands, she said, Shop Eat Sleep Worldwide, by herself, and I Heart Gems by Shabnum Moosa, would be launched.
“Shop Eat Sleep Worldwide is my brainchild. I decided to turn my love for the fine things in life into an app that looks at the best of food, fashion and accommodation at popular holiday destinations in SA.”
