Clip chicken importers’ wings
THE LETTER from Juanita Singh, “Chicken price fix” ( POST, July 26-30), in which she calls for an investigation by the Competition Commission into possible collusion by the major importers of chicken, has my support.
In the past two months or so, the commission has held public hearings into grocery retail because it believes there are features in the sector that may be preventing, distorting or restricting competition. The outcomes are awaited.
The commission is also probing three big drug manufacturing firms for excessive pricing, discrimination and exclusionary conduct involving cancer medicines.
The commission deserves applause for taking on industries and shaking up long-established practices that were regarded as normal. ASHWIN NUNDLALL
