Bollywood singer to perform on Heritage Day
DIVERSITY will take centre stage at the ICC in Durban next week when Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor performs alongside gumboot and pantsula dancers to commemorate Heritage Day.
At a launch event on Friday, Karrusha Krish, the Hcorp Group’s head of the sub-Saharan region, said the concert, on September 21, aimed to celebrate ubuntu and promote the youth development.
“Here at Hcorp, it’s not just about a show. It’s about providing opportunity. Throughout the show, audience members will be mesmerised with the technical aspects that our South African team will be showcasing. We firmly believe that every young person can reach great heights given the opportunity and here, we will provide it. We will be giving an opportunity to Unity SA and other KZN film students, who will be filming and working on this production.”
The Hcorp Group’s head, Prabhu Nepal, added: “There is so much of talent here in Durban and if we don’t use it now and empower them to continue to work here, we may lose them to other provinces or even Hollywood or Bollywood. This show is special for me because I am South African. I have made my fame and I want to help others in South Africa.
“I remember leaving for India with only R600 in my pocket… I wanted to make movies. After struggling, I made my way up and I want to help South Africans here. I don’t want them to struggle.”
Tansen Nepaul will assist with directing the show, while Varshan Sookhun will serve as the creative director.
On the morning of the concert, the Baby Doll hitmaker Kapoor will distribute meals to 100 underprivileged children to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s 100th birth anniversary.
