RELIGIOUS

● The Shree Adhaya Shakti Temple will celebrate Navarathri from today (Wednesday) to October 19. Aarti and garba will be held daily from 6.30pm to 9pm; Durgastami Hawan on October 17 from 8am and Poornahurti at 3pm. Maha Aarti will be held on October 18 at 6.45pm.

● The Foresthaven Hindu Dharma Sabha will observe Navarathri from October 10 to 18 at its temple in Foresthaven, Phoenix, at 6pm daily. The programme includes recitals, maha yagna, kithan, garba, parsad and supper. Call B Gunpath on 082 546 6808.

● The Shree Gopal Lal Temple, of Temple Valley, Verulam, will celebrate Navarathri from October 10 to 19 at 6.30pm on weekdays and Saturday at 4pm. There will be Maha Durga Pooja on October 14 at 7am and Saraswathi Pooja on October 16. Call Karishma Folly on 083 254 0517.

● The Sathie Sanmarka Sungum of South Africa will observe Navarathri from October 10 to 18 and Vijaya Dashmi on October 19. All prayers will start at 3pm.

● The Greenwood Park Shree Rangathar Temple Society will observe its annual Purtassi festival until October 17 at the temple.

● The Dravida Society of Reservoir Hills will observe Saraswathi Poojay on October 21 at 3pm.

● The Cato Manor Hindu Temple will celebrate the Maha Kumbha Abishegam on October 22 and thereafter continuing daily until December 16. A Maha Kumba Abishegam is a sacred occasion held either to formally consecrate a new temple or reconsecrate an old one, which usually occurs at 12 year intervals, following renovation, extensive cleaning and or renewal. ● The Saiva Sithantha Sungum of South Africa will hold its 4th Annual Thirumurai Thiruvizha on October 14 at the Westcliff Sungum Hall, in Westcliff, Chatsworth, from 9am. The Thirumurais will be presented by Odhuvar Sargurunathan Karuppusamy of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and will be supported by Vellori Jayandaran Moodley, Lennie Pillay and Vasan Rajoo. ● The Shree Kamatcheeammen Temple Society will observe Navarathri until October 18. Weekly prayers will be held on Fridays from 6pm and service on Sundays at 8.30am and Tuesdays at 6.30pm.

● The Shree Veeraboga Emperumal Temple will host a Purtassi concert at the Mount Edgecombe Shree Emperumal Temple on October 14 at 6pm.

● The Hillgrove Vishnu Shakti Mandir holds yoga classes every Wednesday from 7 to 8pm at the AMF Hall in Hillgrove, Newlands West.
