We asked users on our Facebook page, POST Newspaper, if TV licences should be scrapped

- ● Reagan Motilall: TV licences should be scrapped. The SABC generates enough revenue via advertising both on TV and radio. Their programming, and quality of it, is not for everyone. They want the consumer to pay for their large salaries and bonuses! Enoug

Shamiksha Sathan Sewsankar: Yes definitely. I personally don't even watch any of those channels. It's so unfair for me to pay for a service I don't even use!

Jenisha Ramwater: Yes please. Today the majority of the people use DStv. We pay such high premiums. I don't see why we should pay TV licences. It is just a waste of money.

Evelyn Harry: There are a lot of people who don't have TV licences and never get asked to pay, and are living quite content not having to pay. Why should we pay while others don't have to?

Reshma Golbahram: Absolutely. Not many people watch TV nowadays, that is SABC programmes. It's the poor people that mostly watch and can't afford the licences. People that can afford either have streaming or satellite dishes, so not many are going to pay.

Ajnabee Musafir: Absolutely. The revenue received from this is minuscule anyway. To top it all, the SABC is heavily censored in that their master’s voice is paramount. We have virtually no voice in content. Why is a licence imposed upon us when we don't even watch SABC? Let those who watch the SABC pay the licence fees because that's where the bulk of our monies go to – together with the deep pockets of the corrupt officials in power.

Simone Simz Pillay: Yes, why must we pay for a TV licence when most people have DStv, StarSat or OVHD and paying for that every month! This is not right, paying for TV licences. It must be scrapped.

Vikash N Nicole Dasruth: Yes it should be scrapped! Let us all get together and start a petition.

Charlyn Govender: It's a waste of taxpayers’ money.
