Sponsorship boost for Dolphins

- DARRYN POLLOCK

THE Dolphins have, in the past few days, announced some key sponsorships and partnerships at a time when Durban is gearing up for a new T20 competition called the Mzansi Super League.

For the Dolphins, they have welcomed on board Fourways Airconditioning as an associate sponsor, as well as Sorbet Man Gateway as an official grooming partner.

The Fourways Airconditioning sponsorship will last for an initial period of two years, with the first option to renew.

“We’re unbelievably proud to be associated with the Dolphins cricket team,” managing director of Fourways Richard Perry said.

“Both the franchise and players represent the best of cricket, one of South Africa’s most loved sports, and to have Fourways associated makes me and my team incredibly proud.

“Sponsoring the Dolphins gives us access to some of the best players in the country to represent us, and their various competitions will help us reach and serve a national audience.”

Chief executive of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom is equally excited at the partnership and looking forward to having another company on board and part of the Dolphins team.

“It is very exciting to welcome Richard and his team to the Dolphins family.

“We have a vision of making cricket accessible to all who want to play it, just like they have the vision to grow their footprint throughout the country,” Strydom mentioned.

“Judging from our first few interactions we are likeminded companies that share the same passion for growth and excellence.”

The partnership with Sorbet Man is another interesting innovation for the Dolphins, and head of Marketing and PR at KZN Cricket Nana Ngubane believes that this relationship could spark an interest amongst lifestyle brands to associate themselves with sporting brands and to explore the vast array of opportunities.

“As a young and vibrant brand, we want to link ourselves with trendy brands. Sorbet Group is a well-established brand in the self-care industry,” Ngubane said.

“The Sorbet Man is one of their newer ventures, and it was the perfect opportunity for us to align ourselves with a product that emphasises the benefits of male grooming in a cool and trendy way.”

Cricket is firmly back in the spotlight with there being a lot of interest growing around Mzansi Super League at Kingsmead, where the Durban Heat will find itself at home.

Durban-born Hashim Amla will be the marquee player for the side, and they will have the first pick of the international marquee player which includes the likes of English stars Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan, West Indies hero’s Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo as well as Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
