Chiefs’ Moon wants to be a star

- MINENHLE MKHIZE

RYAN Moon is not deflated by the lack of sufficient game time he’s had at Kaizer Chiefs recently.

Moon was in a rich vein of form at the back-end of last season, but the Pietermaritzburg-born hitman has now dropped down the pecking order.

Moon started in Chiefs’ last league outing, a 1-0 loss to Polokwane City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban. Prior to that, he only featured in four other games. But Moon is not worried.

“Look, this is football. Sometimes you’re up, and sometimes you’re down. The most important thing is not to change how you were working before. You’ve got to be patient and humble, and seize the opportunity when it comes your way,” he reasons.

Moon got a run-out with Chiefs’ reserve team in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge against Free State Stars Reserves at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, and managed to score in a 2-2 stalemate.

Moon is competing for a place against the likes of Khama Billiat, Leonardo Castro, Bernard Parker and Gustavo Paez.

“I learn every day under them. It is all about learning and bringing that into my own game.

He said the two factors that kept him going was God and his family’s support. “My family did this with (elder brother) Bryce when things were not going well for him. They’ve been great so far,” Moon elaborated.

Asked whether he was under pressure to emulate Bryce, Moon said: “Not at all. I get asked that question a lot. For me, it is an honour to live up to his reputation. He is my role model and the person that I look up to. It’s now my duty to continue keeping the Moon name at the top.”
