So close to land invasion

-

“LAND invaders go on rampage” (POST, November 28 to December 2) refers.

I was absolutely distressed as I live a few metres from where the rampage took place last Monday. If the land is given to invaders, our future is doomed.

This will be the start of more land invasions and violent attacks in Chatsworth, providing fertile ground for an uprising. I hope and pray this invasion is not a strategic tool to denigrate Indians and cause unwarranted racial division. We should not be talking about Indians versus Africans, but as South Africans and our contribution to nation-building and peaceful co-existence.

The municipality needs to take full responsibility and secure all its properties by having full-time security to stop land grabs.

The government must take on the responsibility of providing substantial housing for the poor. Land invasion is not the answer to address economic reform.

National and local government needs to work together and find a solution that protects the interest of the public and addresses the needs of the poor and economically marginalised in our society.

Special thanks must go to Rocky Naidoo, Aslam Kudoos and Rosheni Naidoo for keeping the residents informed about the attempted land invasion.

I am reminded of a saying: “Men hardened in sins do not fear evil”.
