Much to write home about in POST

- POST!” DHAYALAN MOODLEY Mobeni Heights

A BRAVE and excellent letter by Thyagaraj Markandan “It’s congrats to

(December 5 – 9).

It is very confusing as to why some of the editors of the Independent Media group have downsized the popular letters to the editor.

One of the fundamental functions of the press and in particular the print media, is that they are the “watchdog of society”.

The letters to the editor not only provide insight into how the community thinks, but a platform to stir up discussion and for people to exercise their constitutional right in the community.

Many independent and versatile thinkers express wide and varied opinions. These days, while the newspapers battle with the competition of the internet as a medium of communication, perhaps these editors need not reinvent the wheel, but rather keep the newspaper the way it was.

Many regular writers, such as Markandan, Narendh Ganesh, Sanjay Singh, Sanu Singh, Farouk Araie and Jayraj Bachu, are in fact doing the community a great service, and it is these people who would be an inspiration to our youth to not only be free thinkers but also bold human beings who have the courage of their convictions.

My appeal to the editors is to follow the POST and publish a full page of readers’ views as this is ultimately a great societal service.

Thank you, POST. Take a bow. You are becoming a favourite to many readers.
