RELIGIOUS LEADERS WELCOME MOTION TO BAN BIG BANGS:

Kayla Moodley: It shouldn't be banned for just Diwali, it should be banned for every other day that calls for celebration and fireworks.

Sheraine Reddy: Yay! This will mean my autistic daughter can actually leave home to go to visit family in Merebank and Phoenix on Diwali day. The big bangs hurt her ears… It's described as a knife being stabbed into her ear.

Lex Thirboan: The crime rate is so damn high and here you are worried about fireworks. Fight for the death penalty to be brought back.

Michelle Van Dyk: I cannot understand why every year such an issue is made about Diwali when Guy Fawkes and New Year's Day are worse.

Jayne Naidoo: Celebrate like the peaceful people we are. Let colour, sights and aromas fill our hearts on auspicious days, not bombs exploding.

Sharlene Chetty: I'd like to see how this gets policed. What a joke! There are such pressing issues that this country needs to address but people are debating fireworks. Then talk about child labour and pollution. Are you also boycotting and wanting to ban the big chain stores, who buy clothes manufactured in sweat shops? Are the big industries which contribute heavily to pollution on a daily basis being targeted? No, but a one day religious festival causes so much 'pain’ to these concerned citizens.

Ursula Rajkumar Dhee Naidoo: Light lamps instead. After all, Diwali is the festival of lights and not sound!

Desi Chetty: Good news. Hope they confiscate the current stock of big bangs from the retailers as well.

VERULAM MOTHER DUMPED HER BABY THINKING HE WAS DEAD:

Ikraam Mohomed: When she was first caught, and I stand to be corrected, but did she not say she was hiding the pregnancy from the father of her other children?

Ursula Naidoo: She knew exactly what she did!

Cynthia Johnston: An insane plea would have sounded more reasonable than this lie.

Patricia Randall Joubert: So call an ambulance. Not good enough!

THREE DURBAN SCHOOLGIRLS KILLED AFTER TAXI PLOUGHS INTO THEM:

Laila Hsu: My domestic worker's daughter walks with them everyday to school. Today she decided to stay home. They are her best friends.

Angie Subramoney: Pray for the favour of God upon (the) families.

Peter Haripersad: There has to be strict control over these taxis. The government is too lenient.

Nithie Kuppusami: Take all the taxis off the road and bring back the buses.

Annetta Johannes: Very sad. My heart goes out to those parents who lost their darling daughters. Will keep you in my prayers.

Dashni Sheik: Taxi drivers are a law unto themselves.

Denise Nair Naidoo: So young … Lives taken by reckless driving.

Nishal Lochan: Tragic and devastating. As usual nothing will be done.

Senrika Govindasamy: Cannot believe that taxi drivers still show no caution when it comes to scholars.

FAMILIES OF MONTCLAIR MURDER-SUICIDE VICTIMS LEFT IN SHOCK:

Sandeepa Singh: Utterly devastating. Imagine what the kids went through in those final moments.

Mandy Rudman: Too sad for words. Poor children, poor wife.

Charmaine Poobalan: Omg … Why kill the entire family? So sad.

DOMESTIC IN R1M THEFT CASE EXPECTED TO APPLY FOR BAIL:

Sarishka Govender: Easy come easy go.

Gerald Padayachee: Who keeps R1m cash in their home when it was legal to bank it?

Gillian Elizabeth Sylvester: Oh my goodness!

Patricia Randall Joubert: She can afford the bail now!
