Wedding chaos?

Johannesburgbased businesswoman and writer of the popular Accidental Celebridey blog, Samridhi Dhillon shares a throwback memory of the morning of her wedding two years ago. It included a missing groom. She also shares tips on how to keep the peace and insert a spy or two on the bride’s behalf.

LIKE any other wedding group, our day started with chaos.

Amid the chaos, there was a bigger problem that kept ringing in my head. This was the point when I did not care if my make-up artist reached the hotel to get me ready for the welcome lunch.

I also did not care if my Mami’s uncle’s brother finally got his room allocated to the big suite of the hotel that he had been eyeing. All I cared about was – “Where is Arnav?” Yes! The groom was missing. My man couldn’t have chosen a worse time to turn me into a bridezilla.

Even though I put on a fake smile and assured everyone that he was about to reach the hotel, I had my own hurricane whirling in my mind.

He was supposed to have reached Centara Grand Mirage Hotel, in Pattaya, at 8am.

Arnav, with a few of his friends and, well, a few of my friends (more like my spies), had reached Bangkok earlier to have a little “jol”, as they call it, before the wedding celebrations began.

Of course, the groom-to-be was not allowed to speak to the bride-to-be, as he was on his fifth “bachelor party”.

I couldn’t help but wonder if not talking for a few days before the wedding helped me release some stress?

Or was it for him?

I’m sure it helped him as much as it helped me. However, at this point, it seemed to help no one.

While I supported that, I was expecting to see my groom-to-be that morning, so we could welcome our guests and start our wonderful celebrations.

To my astonishment, not only was his phone switched off, but also that of his cousin brother – who was responsible for getting him to Pattaya on time.

The journey from Bangkok to Pattaya is almost two and a half hours by car and, in spite of my regular tries, I got no response from either of them. I finally got hold of my friends, who accompanied them in Bangkok and they assured me my fiancé was on his way to meet me.

After a few motion sickness stops and catching up with sleep, they finally reached the hotel at 12pm.

I spot my groom and give a sigh of relief but, as girly as I can be, I walk right past him in the lobby without greeting him. Well, the ball was in my court now after all.

Celebridey highlights/tips:

● May your groom never go missing before the wedding celebrations.

● Even though I tried, I couldn’t stay angry with Arnav for over an hour. It’s not worth it. Keep the peace.

● Always have your spies in your groom’s pride/party for internal information.

● Not speaking for four days before the wedding actually left us missing each other and got more wedding work done.
