It’s Reds against Rodgers’ Foxes

- ESHLIN VEDAN

MATCHDAY 7 of the Premier League was interesting.

Sheffield United fought hard but lost against Liverpool following a 70th-minute goal from Georginio Wijnaldum.

Jurgen Klopp’s side maintained their 100% win record in the League this season as well as their five-point advantage over second placed Manchester City who coasted to a 3-1 victory against a woeful Everton side.

The Toffees continued their poor start to the season and if things do not improve soon, it will be hard to see Marco Silva keeping his job.

Leicester City continued their good form and recorded their fourth victory of the season by trouncing a haphazard Newcastle side 5-0 at the King Power Stadium.

The game featured a vintage performance and brace from Foxes’ striker Jamie Vardy who has now scored five League goals this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers finally recorded their first victory of the League season by defeating Watford 2-0 at Vicarage Road.

Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have so far been unable to replicate the impressive brand of football which they played last season but they will be hoping that the win can give them confidence going forward.

Chelsea recorded their first victory of the League season by defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at Stamford Bridge with the goals coming from Jorginho and Willian.

The Blues are not going to be among the elite sides this season but Frank Lampard has so far been doing a good job nurturing the younger players such as Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham. The Blues could have a very bright future.

Tottenham bounced back and recorded a 2-1 victory over Southampton.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side endured a slow start to the season after suffering losses against Newcastle and Leicester City.

To add to this, they were also humiliated

TOTTENHAM WIN 17/20 – NORWICH WIN 13/10 – WEST HAM WIN 1/1

Brighton vs Tottenham (AWAY WIN) 17/20 – Graham Potter and Brighton & Hove Albion are starting to feel the heat now as the Terriers lie 16th in the Premier League, enduring a win-less run of six games. Potter’s men are also win-less at home this term, drawing two of the three games at the Amex. Tottenham have an identical record away from home, drawing two and losing the other one of their three ties on the road. In fact, Spurs’ last away victory came way back in January, although Mauricio Pochettino’s men can take a few positives from getting something away to Manchester City and Arsenal this campaign. At 17/20, Spurs are tipped to edge it.

Norwich vs Aston Villa (HOME WIN) 13/10 – Norwich have proved that the Premier League is a different beast in comparison with other leagues. After running away with the Championship title, Norwich have found the going tough, losing two matches in a row, as well as four of their last five games. At home, though, Norwich have won two of the three encounters played at Carrow Road, including an impressive 3-2 victory over Manchester City. Aston Villa find themselves in the relegation zone, winning just once in seven games since their return to the top flight. To make last week after being dumped out of the League Cup by League Two side Colchester FC.

Despite Harry Kane’s 43rd minute goal proving to be the winner, Spurs were largely sloppy yet again.

Lilywhites goalkeeper Hugo Lloris gifted Southampton striker Danny Ings with a goal and Ivorian defender Serge Aurier also earned himself a red card after earning two bookings within a short space of time.

Arsenal and Manchester United played out to a 1-1 draw on Monday night with the goals being provided by Scott McTominay and Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The game was uncharacteristic as it resembled a clash featuring two mid-table sides rather than one between two giants of English football.

On Match Day 8 of the Premier League season there is little doubt that the clash of the weekend will be Liverpool’s match against third-placed Leicester City on Saturday.

Liverpool will go into the clash as favourites but they will be aware that they cannot afford to rest key players against Brendan Rodgers’ in-form side. matters worse, Villa have lost all three of their away games this term. Get on the Canaries here at 13/10.

West Ham vs Crystal Palace (HOME WIN) 1/1 – Saturday’s action in the Premier League concludes with an all-London affair as West Ham do battle with Crystal Palace in the capital. The Hammers are unbeaten in six outings since their opening-day defeat, bearing in mind that it was to Manchester City. In their last two home matches, Manuel Pellegrini’s men beat Norwich and Manchester United, both by 2-0 score lines. Crystal Palace have also had impressive moments this season, winning 2-1 at Old Trafford to beat Manchester United. Sadly, those were their only two goals on the road, while they haven’t been able to get points in any of their other away ties. Take West Ham here at a profitable even money.

Burnley vs Everton (HOME WIN) 39/20 – Its been a season of disappointment so far for Everton. They went from being talked about as being the best of the rest, now we can only wonder if they’ll even make the top half at this rate. The Toffees come off the back of their third consecutive defeat last weekend, losing at home to Manchester City, their fourth defeat in seven games. Burnley, on the other hand, have been far more impressive. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last three encounters, while they have also won two of their three home matches this season, losing just once, albeit against European champions Liverpool. This looks to be an Everton side there for the taking – back the home win.

Rodgers will also be keen to gain some revenge over his former side.

Manchester City will be expected to get the better of Wolves on Sunday while Manchester United have a great opportunity to return to winning ways when they take on an out of form Newcastle on Sunday.

Everton’s game against Burnley on Saturday will be an interesting one to look out for.

If the Toffees lose, Silva’s job will be hanging by a thread.
