Let’s form a lobby for action
THIS is in response to Visvin Reddy’s letter “Let’s expose useless councillors and MPLs” (the POST, October 2 – 6).
Reddy is a man to be admired. He has consistently served our people for many years. He is not liked by many who are in senior positions in parties because he brooks no nonsense – he calls a spade a spade. I agree with him that our Indian representatives are useless. Whose fault is it?
Ninety-nine percent of the leaders, particularly from the ANC, IFP, EFF, and the DA, know nothing about Indians. They select those who are close to them for obvious reasons. Some are selected as token representatives.
Apart from naming and shaming, I would suggest that Reddy be a leader of a non-political lobby group, which has no aspiration to contest any election.
If Reddy needs me to be a part of that group, I will make myself available.
Others that should be invited are Professor Brij Maharaj, Professor Ashwin Desai, Ami Nanackchand, Dennis Pather, Narend Ganesh, and a few excellent letter writers.
Reddy should negotiate a slot on a weekly basis on the radio: Lotus or Hindavani and also secure a slot on TV.
Every, I repeat, every elected Indian representative from council, legislature and parliament will face the panel one at a time.
The presidents of the parties must see to it that their members, who are from the Indian community, are present during those debates.
