Getting HOOKED

-

ANOTHER year has come to an end and the rock and surf summer fishing has just begun. If you haven’t opened your summer account yet, you still have time.

Please remember to leave the areas that you fish in a better condition than when you got there. Take a few moments to pick up some litter and take it to the nearest bin. As always, remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date with all our new video releases and to brush up on your species knowledge, tactics and tips and tricks.

The North Coast is the area to focus on if you are looking for the bigger inedibles. It has been, and always will be, the place to go target bigger fish of the skate or toothy kind. For those who enjoy a chiropractor visit, there have been plenty of big sandies around the upper North Coast. These brutes can quickly break inferior tackle so make sure you have checked all your connections and that you are not taking any short cuts with your terminal gear. Those who are up for a real fight have been swimming some of the skates they have hooked and these have been gobbled up by packs of Zambies. These are the UFC fighters of the shark world as they keep pulling throughout the fight. Those anglers wanting a little bit less drama can have plenty of fun on the points throwing smaller baits for the grey sharks and brown skates. Try a redeye sardine bomb on a working bank!

The central zone has been a lot busier than the north with the holidaymakers making full use of the warmer weather. The best fishing has been on the quieter beaches and piers, so avoid the busy areas as it is not worth the headache. The evening bites have been good for the edible and inedible anglers.

The pompano and stumpies have been feeding well during the evenings with the stumpies feeding into the night. Try a prawn-and-cracker bait to get their attention. The inedible anglers have also managed some good action at night with plenty of grey sharks and some brown skates. These are great fun on the 30lb tackle so leave the big stick and try fighting these feisty fish on the lighter stuff. Red-eye sardine and chokka are the baits of choice for both of these.

The South Coast has seen a lot of holiday action with a lot of bathers making the most of the sunny weather. This is not ideal for us fishing folk but there is plenty of sea to fish. The deeper banks have been producing some giant flatfish for the drone anglers. These guys are dropping whole chokka or bonito and have been hooking some giant thorntail and honeycomb stingrays. These bruisers are not for the faint of heart or tackle so make sure you have a decent rod and reel to handle the strains of these beasts. For the guys fishing for the pot or for smaller fish, there have been plenty of shad around in the early mornings. Spoons and bait have been effective. The bronze bream have also been around so make sure you have some prawn in your bait box.

BET 1 – SOCCER TREBLE @ 4/1 Arsenal WIN 17/20 – Everton WIN 17/20 – Leicester WIN 5/10 Crystal Palace vs Arsenal (AWAY WIN) 17/20

– The journey continues for Mikel Arteta as he looks for back-to-back victories as Arsenal coach when his side visit Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. Three league games in and already the signs are there that Arteta will be a success. After a full week’s rest, the players will have ample time to buy into his tactics which worked so well for large parts against Chelsea and Manchester United. Palace are unbeaten in three league matches, drawing at Norwich and Southampton before beating West Ham. Despite that run, put your money on the Gunners at 17/20.

– Carlo Ancelotti suffered his first defeat as Everton boss last time out against Manchester City, but there were plenty of positives for the Toffees. Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been a revelation for Everton, while Moise Kean looks to be finding his feet under the tutelage of Ancelotti. Brighton have found some form in recent matches, beating Bournemouth 2-0 and drawing 1-1 against Chelsea. Those two impressive results did come at the Amex Stadium, though, with the Seagulls’ away form not giving them much belief of getting something at Everton. Back the home win here at 17/20.

Everton vs Brighton (HOME WIN) 17/20 Leicester vs Southampton (HOME WIN) 5/10

– Leicester City and Southampton square off at the King Power Stadium this Saturday. After winning their last two games, both on the road, Leicester return to the KP and will welcome back Jamie Vardy who missed the last two league games. At all costs, get on the Foxes here.

BET 2 – VALUE BET Sheffield United vs West Ham (AWAY WIN) 34/10

– League action returns on Friday night at Bramall Lane where Sheffield United will be looking to kick on from their positive start in the first half of the season when they host West Ham United. With that new manager bounce still in effect for West Ham, back them to claim maximum points at a valuable 34/10.
