Take this opportunity to get your affairs in order

- POST REPORTER

WHETHER you are in quarantine, selfisolation or practising social distancing due to Covid-19, now is the time to catch up on important admin, especially having a valid will in place.

“In these uncertain times taking a proactive approach to everything, including important personal admin instead of panicking, is the best course of action,” said Alex Simeonides, chief executive of Capital Legacy, a wills and estate administration company.

Capital Legacy is using enhanced technology to enable clients practising selfisolation to liaise with an adviser online to have their wills drafted or updated.

The entire process, including validating the will, can be completed without having to meet in person.

“We’ve made the whole process as simple as possible, as we know many people aren’t feeling comfortable about meeting face-to-face during this time, but they still want to get their valid wills in place,” said Simeonides.

“Clients can keep their original, signed wills, until they feel comfortable having it collected by our trusted courier company and placed in safe storage,” he said.

The company has launched a simplified C-19 gold product that boosts cover for new clients for the next six months to ensure they have enough money to cover legal costs, estate administration, and give their families access to funds should they fall ill and pass away from Covid-19-related complications.

“Clients can draft their wills and secure cover for legal and administration costs while speaking to a consultant on the phone,” added Simeonides.

With the infection and mortality rate of the virus in South Africa still uncertain at this point, it’s important for families to plan should the unfortunate happen.

For example, should you contract the virus and pass away, will your family have access to funds to continue paying your home loan or debit orders?

How will they cover the cost of winding up your estate?

Simeonides emphasised that with so much uncertainty around Covid-19, planning ahead meant your family would not be taken by surprise.
