Refocus and use your energy to benefit SA
IBRAHIM Vawda’s letter to the POST of March 25 – 29 refers.
It raises a fundamental question that is central to people outside of the circles of radical Islamists and closet jihadists who hum like flies around your food on a simmering hot day: If people are true to the country in which they are supposedly good citizens, why would they persist in raising problems of regions that are not geographically connected to South Africa?
There are innumerable problems to be addressed here in South Africa, for which people of varying religious, political and social backgrounds can work together for the common good of all.
Our attention needs to be turned inwards, not outwards to countries where their problems do nothing to help us out of the quagmire of our problems.
Vawda’s idiosyncratic letter is nothing short of being a vexatious diatribe that is devoid of the responsibilities he should be investing in the country of his birth, South Africa.
If Vawda wants to focus upon foreign political problems, then he should also show empathy for the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits who have become refugees in the land of their birth, India.
If Vawda wants to raise issue with (Narendra) Modi coming to power with just 37% support from the electorate, then he should also raise issue with why Pakistan has been under military rule for most of its existence since its creation in 1947 by the British?
Military rule in Pakistan prevails despite civilian elected governments.
Similar situations of military dictatorships and authoritarianism have formed the basis for the disintegration of countries like Libya, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Egypt and many more to come. This is what Mr Vawda should be focusing on, not the able and democratic-minded Indians.
Vawda should turn his attention to help solve the political problems of his beloved Pakistan, which he so implicitly supports.
The rampant murder of minorities, including Ahmediyas and Shia (both being Muslims) continues with impunity.
He should at least have the courage of his convictions and admit that in this dire situation of the global coronavirus pandemic, the xenophobic hate-filled government in Pakistan is denying assistance of any sort to its Hindu, Buddhist, Parsee, Jain and Christian minorities.
He will certainly not see such cunningness in Hindu-majority India against the minority Muslim population. But most importantly, Mr Vawda, make yourself more relevant and use your time and energy for the benefit of helping South Africa out of its economic crisis.
