Lessons from a legendary administrator
THE story of Ronnie Vengan is one of talent, hardship and perseverance and needs to be heard.
It is one I think we can all relate to in some way.
Ronnie is believed to be the best administrator Isipingo has seen.
He did not have the world handed to him. He worked his way up to sports administration provincially.
In the early days, he was the secretary and treasurer of Gokulstan United Football Club and thereafter the chairperson, manager, secretary and treasurer of the Isipingo Suburbs Football Club.
At an association level, he held many positions, ultimately becoming the president of the Isipingo and District Football Association that was established in 1918.
His administrative skills were noticed at an early age and he was called to serve in the Southern Natal Football Association where non-racial football was played.
Among his awards, he received one from Skisa (Shotokan Karate International South Africa) in 2016 for his contribution to the non-racial sport.
When asked why he treasured the award, he said the recognition was from a karate body and not from the footballing fraternity.
This shows that it’s not only football we serve as human beings but humanity at large.
After the formation of the Isipingo Soccer Legends, he handed over the presidency to Ganny Govender.
Ronnie then launched Isipingo Junior Soccer where he now serves as the public relations officer.
To develop the right habits, read about people who you admire and see what they did and how they did it.
Then inculcate a few of these habits in your life.
There is a rule I live by. If you do something, make sure you do it to the best of your ability and do not compromise your ethics, values and trust.
Also, do not do it to expect anything in return.
