Thanks for the wake-up call

KUDOS to Dhayalan Moodley who, in my opinion, is an accomplished letter writer.

I refer to his piece, “Stop torture of our sacred animals” (the POST, May 27 – 31).

They say ignorance is bliss. Well, I am thoroughly ashamed to admit that I am one of those ignoramuses.

I confess that I enjoy a good cuppa.

Therefore, the horrific idea of a newborn calf being led away from its traumatised mother is heart-wrenching.

Yet, here I am, drinking my cappuccino while reading this very letter. Sadly, old habits die hard.

Given the disdain society has for harmonious coexistence with nature, small wonder then that our very existence is threatened alongside that of our environment.

But Moodley must remain resolute in his efforts to conscientise us. Who knows, perhaps some small seeds of his wisdom may take root in the fertile minds of a few.
