It was a difficult year, but we made it - matric achievers
THREE pupils from Stanger Manor Secondary in KwaDukuza were placed in the top five matric pupils of the iLembe District.
Preshivan Govender was first, Shanice Talia Augustine was third and Nevana Rampershadh was fourth.
They each attained 7 distinctions, and attributed their success to hard work.
Preshivan, 18, of Stanger Manor, achieved distinctions in English, Afrikaans, physical sciences, life science, accounting, maths and life orientation.
He has been provisionally accepted to study medicine at the University of Pretoria, UCT, Wits and Stellenbosch University.
“It was a difficult year. We were trying to learn remotely and work with our teachers via WhatsApp. Some of my friends’ parents had passed on due to Covid-19. The hardest part was not being able to see them during that difficult time.”
Preshivan said he succeeded because he had studied every day.
Talia, 18, is looking forward to studying medicine. She has been provisionally accepted at the University of Stellenbosch and UCT.
“My mother has a heart condition and I saw the efforts the doctors took to treat her. This inspired me to pursue a career in this field,” she said.
Talia achieved distinctions in the same subjects as Preshivan.
“I achieved my results by taking it one step at a time, and by working hard."
Nevana, 17, of Shakaskraal, said pupils needed to adapt to self-studying from day one.
She achieved distinctions in English, Afrikaans, maths, accounting, life science, geography and life orientation.
“Self-studying, coupled with hard work, will help them achieve their goals,” she advised this year’s matric class.
Nevana has been provisionally accepted to study a BCom accounting at UKZN, the University of Johannesburg and Stellenbosch University.
Harithasen Naidoo, principal of Stanger Manor Secondary, attributed the school's success to its management team, teachers and parents, who all supported the pupils.
