Man U shock bookies
In derby
THE biggest shock in the Premier League last weekend which would have upset the bookies big time was Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Manchester derby.
United’s win was as shocking to most as Brock Lesnar’s 2014 WrestleMania 30 victory over the Undertaker which ended the latter’s 21-year unbeaten streak at the annual WrestleMania event.
Ironically, by beating the Undertaker, Lesnar made the wrestling legend’s streak at Mania 21-1.
By beating City last weekend, United ended City’s unbeaten run and made their recent streak 21-1.
The star of the show for United was defender Luke Shaw. Not only did Shaw cause plenty of frustration for City players Riyadh Mahrez and João Cancelo by prematurely ending most of their attacking forays, he also chipped in with a stunning goal in the second half which sealed it in United’s favour.
Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four are fading fast as they were consigned to a fourth defeat in five league games by Fulham.
The Reds were poor and lacked finesse from start to finish.
While none of the Liverpool players performed with merit, Mohamed Salah was especially poor as he conceded possession needlessly which allowed Mario Lemina to score the only goal of the game for Fulham.
The result meant that Liverpool slipped to eighth in the Premiership, two points behind West Ham who have played two games fewer .
However, Liverpool fans had something to celebrate last weekend as club legend Steven Gerrard officially won his first league title as a manager in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers, thus preventing his club’s arch-rivals Celtic from winning a tenth consecutive league title.
Liverpool’s meltdown this season has not been entirely Jurgen Klopp’s fault; he has been besieged by injury problems which are uncontrollable and has had to deploy players outside their natural position.
However, there is little doubt that Gerrard will end up being linked with the Liverpool hot seat next season if Klopp fails to reignite the club’s flame next season.
Tottenham look like they are back to their best as they dismantled Crystal Palace to record their third successive league win. Though Gareth Bale again proved his doubters wrong with a brace, Harry Kane delivered arguably the best attacking display by any player in the league in the game.
The England national team captain not only scored a brace, but he assisted with the two goals which were scored by Bale.
