Glazers have the devil of a job

Man United vs Liverpool

The much anticipated Manchester United vs Liverpool Premier League clash was cancelled owing to Manchester United fans storming the Old Trafford pitch in protest to show their dissatisfaction towards club owners, the Glazer family.

The unhappiness towards the Glazer family is nothing new and in 2005 a group of unhappy United fans broke away from the club to form a breakaway club called … wait for it … FC United of Manchester.

Believe it or not, FC United has over 800 000 followers on Facebook, probably the highest number of followers a semi-professional club anywhere has, but the majority of their followers are likely people who confused it for the Old Trafford giants.

Sir Lewis wins in Portugal

Despite Dutch driver Max Verstappen starting to show his class, veteran seven-time F1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton proved that he will still be the favourite to win a record eighth World Drivers Championship by winning the Portuguese Grand Prix over the weekend while Verstappen placed second.

Hamilton recorded his 97th win overall since starting his F1 career in 2008 and he now boasts more wins overall than racing legend Michael Schumacher (91).

Benni continues to dazzle with AmaZulu

Following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Durban rivals Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium over the weekend, AmaZulu made history by reaching 50 points for the first time in the PSL era.

Usuthu were temporarily on top of the DStv Premiership standings before Mamelodi Sundowns went back to pole position after they thrashed Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

Benni McCarthy has made an immediate impact since he took charge of AmaZulu last December and he certainly has the potential to become one of the pioneer tacticians from Africa if he can carry on at this rate.

Benni and Bafana?

Due to his impressive tactics with AmaZulu, it is no surprise that Benni is being linked with the Bafana Bafana coaching vacancy.

The national team is without a coach after parting with Molefi Ntseki recently. The identity of the new Bafana coach is set to be revealed shortly. I don’t think Benni should take up the Bafana Bafana coaching post at this point in his career.

At 43, he could still have another two decades in coaching professionally and it is likely that he may get a chance to coach the national team later in his career.

At his current rate, he could potentially go on to coach in Europe and by doing this, he could also pave the way for other coaches from Africa to eventually coach in Europe and lead some of the biggest clubs in the world.
