AT JUST 11, Tevin Reddy, of Queensburgh, is making his mark on the music scene.

The Grade 6 pupil at Falcon Park Primary in Chatsworth has released three singles under the record label, Boss Life Entertainment.

His debut single, Born for This,

which was released two months ago, has notched more than 1 000 views on YouTube. His previous singles were Vibe on Check and Wildest Dreams.

Tevin discovered his love for music while listening and watching music videos in his dad’s recording studio.

“When my dad built a recording studio, they signed Siphesihle Mhlanga, known as Verge The Rapper, whom I was inspired by. I spent a lot of time in the studio after school and the producer, Njabs, ensured we had fun. So it became my go-to place whenever I was free. I got more interested in music and Verge coached me with my rapping style.”

Tevin’s dad, Venan Reddy, 37, who owns and manages Boss Life Entertainment, said: “From a young age, Tevin was never really interested in toys like his peers. When he was four years, he used to watch MTV Base and sing along, word for word, to the songs. He is so aligned with maturity for someone his age. Tevin has solid goals and big ambitions.

“In 2019, my other company, Bossridesa, launched a charity event at the Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre. We discovered a young talented musician named Verge from the orphanage. I was taken by his talent and I decided to build a recording studio at our headquarters in Malvern, to help assist him to reach his pinnacle. Little did I know that at the same time I was building my own son’s career.

“Verge has become a mentor to our son. He has been coaching Tevin with his music and they now share a brotherly relationship. I take both of them as my sons.”

According to Reddy, Tevin’s popularity was built mainly on TikTok.

“We were surprised when we realised his social media accounts were growing gradually. His TikTok account was accumulating thousands of likes and his YouTube channel is continuously increasing.

“In January last year, I decided to sign him up under my record label after we had been recording him and I realised he was really good.”

While he loves making music, Tevin wants to study mechanical engineering and become a businessman.

He said his mom, Eva Reddy, ensured he balanced schoolwork and music.

“My mother is strict. She manages my time spent between schoolwork and studio time. I also believe school always comes first and I only go to the studio with my dad when I am free.”

Tevin said his favourite subject was maths and he enjoyed playing basketball and PlayStation. He hopes to collaborate with Cassper Nyovest, an award-winning rapper.

His music is available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music and Deezer.

On social media platforms he is Tevintherapper.
