Parusnath sets sights on Bafana selection

SHERWOOD resident Seth Parusnath was one Golden Arrows’ impressive performers last season, helping the club to finish fourth in the league.

The Lamontville club’s league form was especially impressive, considering that they worked with limited resources in comparison to the so-called “big teams” such as Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and now even KwaZulu-Natal rivals AmaZulu.

“We were a fearless team that showed a good brand of South African and modern day football. My personal highlight was winning the man of the match award in the draw against Celtic in April. It was something I’ve worked hard towards and finally got,” said the former St Benedict School pupil.

Former Arrows coach Mandla Ncikazi drew praise for his ability to get the most out of young and local talent last season. The 52-year-old was rewarded for his efforts by being recruited by Orlando Pirates.

“Coach Mandla was a father figure to the squad. He allowed everyone to be free and express themselves.

“He was still firm enough to tell us when we were not doing well and I think that allowed us to do well,” said the 26-year-old Parusnath who mainly plays as a midfielder.

While Ncikazi will no longer be in the Arrows dugout next season, Parusnath believes that his influence will remain with the current squad.

“Losing him was sore especially as he was a father figure to us. I think that each player has matured immensely under him and we will keep that within us for the upcoming season.

“We will push and so I don’t think that him leaving will cause us to decline,” said Parusnath.

Parusnath will be one of the more experienced players in the Arrows set-up next season.

“He will be key in determining whether Abafana Bes’thende can surpass expectations next season. He also has big

personal goals.

“Game time has given me the chance to get more experience. It allows someone like me to help and guide younger players in the team and give off that little that I learn from playing.

“I’d really like to up my goals and assist numbers going forward. God willing, I’d like to break into the national team.

“I believe in God’s timing for everything in life and God willing that can come soon enough if I can do better than I did last season,” said Parusnath.
