Family’s needs came first

- ASHMITHA RAMLACKAN Phoenix

MY MOTHER, Lilly Meera Ramsaroop, grew up in humble beginnings.

Her early sacrifices for her parents and siblings were a sign of the countless sacrifices she was to make as a wife and mother to her three girls.

She was a hard-working woman who always put her family’s needs before her own.

She led a life of simplicity but was richly blessed with the love and respect of all those around her.

Her most memorable qualities were her compassionate nature, her kindness, patience, and her unwavering love for her family.

My mother had a deep impact on my life to such an extent that her sudden and unexpected departure left a void.

Although my mom had a limited primary school education due to her family’s financial situation, it merely served to strengthen her determination to ensure my tertiary qualification materialised.

She inspired me to achieve greatness, both in my work environment as well as in my family life.

My mom was my role model. What qualified her to the status of a role model was her continuous love, support and guidance for her family.

If it’s true that a person’s wealth is determined by the love and care of the people they are surrounded by, then in that respect, my mom was the richest person by far.

During this time of Pitra Paksha, it is an honour to pay tribute to my mother, who epitomised love, kindness and selflessness.

Mom, in life, you were loved. In death, you are missed.

My mother died on July 29 last year.
